Insuring, insurance and warranty problems with JCW.

Are there any problems insuring, or with insurance in general and/or warranty problems or limitations with adding the JCW tuning kit? Does the aftermarket JCW kit affect extended warranties? One would think that the larger JCW brakes would lower insurance!!! I am looking at these issues in an 06 MCS cabrio with aftermarket jcw tuning kit, brakes, wheels, interior and exterior swag.

Kind of the point of the JCW kit is that it DOESN'T negativly effect the factory warranty.

I can't imagine it effecting insurance unless you start pointing out how much faster or more valuable the car is.

Maybe post in the 1st Gen. forums and ask those who have installed the kit, since it's still on the horizon for all R56 owners.

I can only speak positively of the insurance company I work for, but I would bet others would feel the same. That is, we don't care about the JCW tuning kit installed when it comes to your eligibility for insurance. That's to say, a private passenger auto will remain eligible as long as you don't turn it into a street rod or it's not a car obviously designed for racing.

Now, if you expect to be reimbursed should your car be involved in a loss, you need to tell your insurance company you've installed aftermarket parts and produce receipts for them. They'll probably write an Endorsement on your policy and add a small increase to your rates to make them adequate for the risk you're exposing them to. Without that, good luck getting those parts replaced should they be damaged in an accident or if your car should become a "total loss".

I've always been upfront wth my insurance company; they know the price of my car and know that it has the factory installed JCW kit. Mainly because if it gets stolen/totaled I want them to have a record of what I paid for. There's such a wide range of factory pricing on a Cooper S.

That being said, they had quoted me a price while the car was on order, and said that once they had a VIN, the number could go up to reflect any change in classification symbol that the JCW tuning kit might cause. However, when I got the VIN, the price stayed the same. My understanding is that the JCW is an option, as opposed to a different model, so the VIN doesn't reflect the extra 37 hp. Now, a GP on the other hand, is a different model and that is reflected in the VIN.....

I heard that you can't get an extended warranty on JCW

I heard that you can't get an extended warranty on JCW. Is that true?
