Yes Yes Yes. I had been thinking about doing the same, but I didn't have the fabrication skills. I would definently purchase something like this.

Thanks for all your comments (positive or not). I'm always willing to listen to other points of view (notice I said listen, ). So, keep them comming. And like most of you said, I'm building it for me not anyone else and that's the whole point of customizing. I just don't like to be another one of the bunch, no offense, specially not with the potential the Mini offers. For me, I could throw in a bunch of bolt on mods and that would be nice, but I really get pleasure from doing something different and there I have succeeded.

As for selling the spoiler, I haven't decided. I guess if somebody twisted my arm. Even with the mold now available, it still requires some work to make it fit just right. So I guess if a vendor wanted to buy it, I would go with that.

Defylogik - I had the idea and was working on the fabrication of it, but not until I met a guy with a honda and a similar wing did it all come together.

FL_blue_MINI - Yes I was testing air flow but have not done the final testing with spoiler on.

amorican - No, sorry. It doesn't solve the storage problem (what problem?). But I now have a place to put my gatorade when I'm working on the Mini.

Jughead - The third brake light is visible. I designed it with the countour of the boot and the light sits just above the countour.

Feel free to ask if any questions.

I think it looks awesome. I'm not a fan of the Orciari (although I have their 3-piece wing), but with that car, it just clicks... Something about it... it all makes sense.

Oh, and the project came out much better than this thing:

Lookin' good, and the fact that you designed, built, and installed is an automatic in my book!
Leo.

The thing I hate most about just about every "hatchback" convertible is the way the ragtop "comes together" with the body. You made a beautiful fix. It looks like how the cabrio should be. I still wouldn't buy one, though. 'Cause the second thing I hate about a cabrio is that, around here, when it stops raining long enough to pop the top, it's to freaking HOT to enjoy it!

I think it would look good in black. You have the painted arches and the replacement side trim, but I have the black trim on hot orange with a black top... Making it the same shiny black as the front pillars would be really nice. Hopefully some vendor will pick these up.

Yes, I agree. When I was testing the fitment on the first cast, the spoiler had a nice shiny charcoal color to it (due to the gelcoat used as filler/primer) and I was soooooo tempted just to leave it that dark color. It really tied the whole car together. Specially, I would think, since you have all that black throughout. I've also thought about finishing it off with CF for that carbon Fiber look. That would look really good...!!!

Alright FINE, you've talked me into being your test guinea pig!

Seriously... even my wife likes this look, and that's exceedingly rare. Hope you find a vendor!

Imagox, ok here it goes... (I reserve the right to change my mind), I was not planning on mass producing it. Specially after some inconsistencies with the mold came out and had to re-finish the spoiler in a couple of areas. I took a good amount of work to get it to where I was very satisfied (but then again, some people think I'm ****). So, I can definitely apply these changes to the next cast. What I'm saying is I'm willing to do a few spoilers but I need some test subjects (cabrio and coupe-for anybody that might be interested). The curvature of the car is so intricate in the corner pieces that if its not properly finished or mounted it will not fit right. And this is where the second caviat comes in to play: Patience. This is not something I can produce in a few days (not making sure it fits properly). If I'm not happy with it, it will not be mounted on any car...

So, Do you want to Dance?

Heck yeah... I can't do paint, but I assume that you send them out for that step. I can probably do the sanding and any other prep work that's required, but I'll need your help in choosing tools and proper technique and such.

I appreciate your honesty on the challenges involved... I've seen too many other things that sound like simplicity at first blush but turn out to actually be a nightmare... I see what you call "****-ness" as "the proper level of atention to detail that I'm comfortable with" for something as large and visible as this peice and feel that it's totally a PLUS. Bottom line - if you don't feel comfortable with them than I respect (and appreciate) that fact.

PM me with details if you want to try and go forward and we'll see what we can work out. I can take photos of the installation steps as well if you need them - God knows I've done enough of that by now to get pretty good at it.

PS - My wife disagrees with me and thinks that keeping the spoiler orange like the rest of my car would be better, but if the unpainted peice is dark maybe I can convince her when we test-fit the peices. Maybe she'll be right after all - your body-colored one looks pretty sweet, but I can't tell if that's because you have painted trim as well or not...

FTW = "For The Win" or F0r teh W1N!!!" in "'leet speak".

PS - How does the inclusion of the wing affect the dreaded "rear window spray" on rainy days?

I vote for black like the A pillars, when you get to production mode.

Well, I assume that he'd supply them unpainted, like other body kits, and leave that decision up to the customer.

Here is what I was thinking ImagoX, you'll have a piece that should be almost ready for primer & paint. Yes, I did take mine to a body shop for the final steps. Because I'll be doing some sanding to smooth it out, you will not have the shiny gelcoat finish it comes out of the mold with. The only things you might have left to do is some final sanding for proper mounting and depending on how even your boot shuts to the body, you might have to add bit of body filler to the corner pieces. I can explain that later in more detail. That's because my boot doesn't shut flush with the body (even after adjusting it) and one corner piece was a few mm off the edge of the center piece. Again that "proper level of atention to detail that I'm comfortable with" thing.

I'll post some more close up pics, just to make sure you're comfortable with how it looks and fits before we proceed any further.
