Wellstar fuel flap chrome cover

I placed this thread on the Cabrio section but got no response. I am interested in a chrome cover for my fuel flap door cover and I realize this is a plastic ABS stick-on item. I also realize that there are no 'real' chromed fuel caps for a Cabrio.

Here is the text of my post on the Cabrio section:

"Has anyone purchased the chrome fuel flap cover from
Mybeautifulmini.com?

Does it fit the USA 2006 Cabrio?

How do you like the quality? The fit?

http://www.mybeautifulmini.com/pages...cef72b94e5c73d

Thanks in advance from all interested in your experience."

Wellstar is the manufacturer. Mybeautifulmini.com asked that I order the part and return it if it does not fit. The return shipping to UK is rather high. Wellstar did not answer my email.

My question: Can someone measure the diameter of their 02-06 Hard top Cooper fuel door flap and respond to this inquiry? Is the 02-06 Hard top MCS fuel door flap a different diameter? My dealer is over 70 miles away and my area has few Mini's to walk up to and measure the diameter of the flap cover.

This way I can tell if my 06 Cabrio's fuel flap door cover is the same diameter and therefore if it would fit.

Again, if anyone has any experience with this Wellstar ABS chrome cover, please let me know of your experience.

Doug

Doug,
I also own an '06 MCSC and I can tell you that the position of the fuel door is different on the hard top.

The fuel door on the MSCS is lower on the body and that section of the body is flatter vs. the tin top sit closer to the trim line. That area has a subtle roundness to it.

Some months back I purchased a polished aluminum cap for the MCS thinking it might work, but no go.

hope that helps.

Brownflyer, which polished aluminum cap did you purchase? Was it this one from MossMini? I am curious because I have a MCSC and just ordered one of these.

Boston, that was it...
I didn't get it from Mossmini, thou. And it was slightly cheaper. So, if you still want to try it... I have a new fuel door available at a good price...

My suggestion, Cancell the order. It will not fit. I tried everything to make it fit and just gave up on it.

I noticed on realoem.com that the fuel door for the Cooper and the fuel door for the Convertible are two different part numbers, so they probably aren't the same. I bought a primed piece from MINI for my Convertible and had it chromed at a motorcycle shop, but it looks to me like the chrome is starting to delaminate away from the fuel door now. Here's how it looked when it was new:

You're torturing me 1SXE, I wish that would fit the Cabrio....but nooooo!
Notice the location of the fuel door on 1SXE mini vs Steve black cabrio. The body contour changes.

I just can't stop looking at that Polished fuel door!!!!

Before I put my chrome fuel door on I was checking several polished fuel doors @ PepBoys that were made for trucks. I found one that was an almost fit for under $50. I would have had to modifiy the mounting ring just a little to make it work. I think if someone wanted to find slightly modify one that a fit could be found It might be woth a try anyway.
