Remove downtube drink holder?

OK, OK. I give. Yes, I searched. Maybe it's the full moon? Whatever!!

How do I remove it??? I took out the two screws on the downtube and nada. It seems like there's 3M sticky tape or something else holding it to the downtube. I don't wanna break it/scratch the dash/cut my finger!

Got a MiniFini holder instead. That's on but OEM bracket...well...

Take a piece of thin string trimmer line and pull it down between the holder and the DT. You may need to use pliers to hold the string. When it is off, there will be some glue or foam residue. This residue will clean off with some alcohol or in my case I used 3M adhesive cleaner (Naptha and Xylene) with won't remove the paint. This thing is really stuck on, it will take some force.

Hey YD!

Thanks for the excellent advice. I've seen your skills/advice in the 'Light that Boot' string!

I have even heard of people taking a hair dryer and warming the adhesive a little to make it more pliable.

a hair dryer makes a big difference. Sticky tigs come of much easier with a blow dryer and fishing line/dental floss.

I like the idea of heavy duty dental floss. It is softer and waxy so as not to scratch the DT. If it is strong enough not to break it should be perfect.

Don't use the DS tape

Good tips for removal. I installed two cupholders. Didn't use the sticky tape, because I wanted to be able to remove them easily. You'd think the bracket would move around but it's not bad because you don't place that much weight on it.
