JCW Fat Steering Wheel w/ Paddles???

Soooo.... I followed the JCW "fatty" steering wheel thread and got all hot and bothered about having one. Then I went oooooohhhhhhhhh..... when I thought about the fact that I have a MCSCa with paddle shifters... Hmmm, wonder if that will be a problem? So I took a look at it and yep, the paddles appear to attach to the back of the wheel and there are two big "notches" cut in the flexible rear "apron" of the wheel to clear the paddles. So I emailed Morristown and asked - and the verdict was...

John Cooper Works Steering Wheel is not compatable with the paddle shifters.

Arghhhhhhhh.....

Sooooo...... are there any MINIac mechanical geniuses out there who have made this work, anyway? Or who have tried and failed? Or tried and been killed by their spouse for spending $400+ on a wheel that they hacked up and couldn't get to work??? I REALLY need to know - any help/insight appreciated - including any comment from anyone who has had the stock wheel w/paddles apart and may know how it differs from the "normal" wheel...

I'm interested in how the MCSa wheel differs from the standard MCS wheel also. I really like the JCW wheel with alcantara.

+1 because it shouldn't interfere. That is unless the thicker wheel hits the paddles

Yeah - that's what I'm trying to figure out - because the paddle assembly "emerges" from notches in the "skirt" beneath the wheel, it appears that this would have to be cut out of the way at a minimum. But I'm wondering if there is something ELSE that's different about the back side of the auto wheel vs. the standard wheel regarding how the paddle assembly attaches, how it clears the column, etc. It doesn't SEEM that the difference in wheel thickness would matter - it appears there's enough clearance on mine...

Until someone with enough $$$ and motivation to risk throwing away a JCW wheel gives it a shot, I don't think we'll know... (and at this point, I'm not sufficiently motivated to risk the $$$)...

I just ordered a nice charcoal wheelskin to stitch on - to get a little fatter and a little softer. Afraid that might have to be "good enough"...
