Interior/Exterior Time to mod my taillights....opinions please!
I think tinted would look good. I saw one which was a film on an aftermarket site that I thought look pretty sharp (mini madness, i think). I don't get the clear thing. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I had the last Civic Si on the East coast with a stock exhaust.

Yup, MINI-Madness has them.
And Lauren, feel free to call me about the suspension. I did it all myself. Heck, I do everything myself: springs, sway, tinted tails, oil change, stereo, pulley, intake, ....

I will definitely have some questions for you....thanks, R.!!
Tinted my tail lights tonight. I must say I was a bit concerned about how much affect the tint would have on the intensity of the tail lights.
Anyway, I went ahead and did it and I'm going to keep them on and see how it goes. While I am concerned, the light output seems to be OK. Here are some shots I took.
Comparison of tint to no tint. Too bad it was daylight. A shot like this at night would have told the true story.

Some night shots.
Tail lights only. No brakes.

Brakes on.

Brakes with hazard lights.

I gotta say, the tint does make the housing look real nice in the daytime. That is the one thing that made me keep on going after I started.
I am cautiously optimistic at this point.

>>How many percent do usually tint their rear light??
I used "Oracal 8300 Dark Grey." It is a very high quality vinyl intended for long term exterior use. It is a thinner film than the laminX film. As a result, it emits more light and can be thermo-formed easier. It can also be painted if you want to try masking your lights.
I'd suggest removing your lights and essentially shrink wrapping the lense with the film. This will allow the film to wrap the corners, hide all the edges and assure that those edges bonded with the lense.

How To Tint Tail Lights
If you follow these easy step by step that I did earlier this month you canleave the lights in place. I see no reason to remove them to do this mod. And Lamin-X has all different shades of film in many colors. There is a link to them in the attached How-To thread.

Update...
I received the brake light kit yesterday in the mail from mini-rolls. MAN was that EASY! We were a little retarded on the first one, but once we figured it out the second was smooth sailing. It looks so cool! And it's so simple. I totally recommend it!
Thanks mini-rolls!!!

^ ^ Seriously...if you haven't talked to mini-rolls yet and you are nervous about splicing the wires yourself, shoot him a PM. It's super mega extra easy to do.
I ordered the MINI clear tail lights from a distributer in Canada for $225 including shipping, the actual dealership ones not aftermarket!! PM me if you need more info anyone. Also do you really have to splice the wires? Any way I think the tinted looks great especially with black roof, but silk green/white top looks oh sooo goood with clear. I will have some good pics once we get them.
Just a suggestion...I've done something different with the tail lights. Instead of an extra brake light as I feel three are enough. I opted to have an extra running light ( Jumper wire from running light to "fog" receptical then use a 5w bulb) + laminex tint (thanks nobull!).
Have a GREAT day!!
