Xenon Fog Lights: A Project

Well I took some HIDs off my bro's car and put them on my car in the factory fog light housings temporarily. I ended up partially melting one of the housings. And this has thus turned into a bigger project than I anticipated. So from the Group Buy thread I started, here:

I think I can fix my foglight housing that was somewhat melted and I'm going to make sure the HID bulb will fit perfectly. Once I get done dremeling the housing I'll be putting 2 DIFFERENT bulbs. One is a D2R my friend gave me, the other is the D2S I took off my bro's car. I will be running one Vision-Bulb and one HID for a couple of weeks.

The reason? At first just to see exactly how well the xenon-look H11's match up compared to the real thing on the other side. Also, I want to compare brightness in order to try to refute several NAMers arguments about HIDs in halogen housings being less efficient than halogens. And the reason that matters most to me, for the time being, to see if the factory housings can withstand the heat of the HID bulb.

As a side note, it seems there are quite a few points where one could screw in other housings in the factory location. Sooo I think it'll be pretty simple to bolt up a HID Projector housing into the factory location. I will be doing this in about a month or so when I have money for projectors. I plan on having pics of everything and I'll be posting my observations. And most importantly, this could serve as a "guide" for others who want real xenons in a real xenon projector for their foglights...

Some pics:

The HID fogs before I melted a housing. Note, these bulbs just look like really bright halogens from close, but white/blue from the distance:

And the melted housing:

From the front, can't really tell but w/e

I think a set of HIDs work best as high-beams. I had them in my car for several months but removed them due to issues when you need hgh-beams quickly. Seeing as they need to warm up.
