How to remove shift ****

Guys, this is probably the stupidiest question by far but ... how the heck do you remove the stock shift ****? I have a '06 MCS. I tried twisting it and that damn'd thing just wouldn't budge.

Grab it hard and lift straight up. But be forewarned, do not place your face anywhere near (above) your hand or you will punch yourself. This is a real warning.

I don't think you want to keep trying to twist it off. I haven't done it myself, but I'm pretty sure that's not the way. Wait for someone else to chime in/confirm, but I seem to remember reading that you have to just pull straight up.....hard!

Yeah, just pull on the sucker hard. It will go off, just be careful not to hit yourself on the pull.

some people like to keep their sun roof open so they can catapult it to
their noisy neighbor's dog.

As everyone else said, pull with all your strengh!

Another good tip is to put the shifter in 2nd gear...

As others have said, pull really hard. But open your sunroof and KEEP YOUR FACE AWAY FROM THE REMOVAL PATH or else you'll need some gauze and antiseptic to apply to the cuts that your teeth will make in your hand.

You can jerk it off easier than you can get it off with a steady pull.

FWIW, Doug Whalen's ***** (his gearshift *****, that is) have a special collar that makes installing and removing the **** really easy. He also offers tremendous customer service. Does that make a gearshift **** worth $130? It does to me. It also makes a huge difference in feel.

I'm not Doug Whalen, I don't play him on TV or the net, and I'm not getting a free **** for saying this, I'm just a very satisfied customer.

**** removal

Thanks for all the comments. I've don quite a few DIY upgrading including sway bar and springs but none has sounded as "hazardous" as this little ****

Will give it a try this weekend.

It is easier in a convertable as you can use your legs.

You may even try to heat it up with a hair dryer first I think I remember seeing someone post this before. Let us know if this works. Thanks Steve

There is no warning when the **** is about to give. I agree with the jerk approach rather than a steady pull (did I just insult myself?)
