Well, blow me down! I found this website: http://www.powdercoating.org/wood/content.htm and it clearly shows wood and plastic being powder coated! Wood, due to its moisture content and plastic using low temperture powders (there ya go, eh, who'd a thunk?)
So, let's all get our door handles PCd.

cheers,

Sears sells a gun for $100. How hard do you think this would be to do in the garage?? Coat it, bake it in the oven?

I heard the odor is quite bad, when it's curing, and that you should have a seperate oven to do the curing.

I used to work in a PC shop about 20 years ago in Australia and the process was pretty new. It certainly needed a separate oven back then and I think we were using about 500deg F to cure. We only did metal, and there were about 10 colors back then. From the look of that industry website I mentioned above, things have certainly changed!

Even if plastic could be powder coated, It would never withstand the curing process. (400 degrees of heat)

IR curing uses light, not heat.

Reference the instruction booklet that comes with your aforementioned Sears PC gun.

What the hell does that have to do with the price of tea in china? Perhaps you should put your 'Jump to Conclusions Mat' back in the closet where it belongs.

#1 - I haven't bought the gun. #2 - it's a different process then IR. #3 - thanks for answering a question nobody asked.

Yes, you can powdercoat plastic. No, you can't do it with the heat process.

Anyone in the Newport News, Hampton, or Norfolk VA area looking for a powder coater PM me. This guy just opened 2 months ago. The wait isn't long. (Yet!)

To solve your door handle issue, 3 coats black + 2 Coats clear, or 5 coats gloss black. Very durable.
