Speaker replacement:Need advice/help
Hi,
I've replaced the stock speakers of my S with some Polk's. They all sound pretty good but the front speakers are operating at nearly 1/2 the volume of the rear 6x9's. When I replaced the component speakers there were 4 leads running a full signal (one to each tweeter and 6 1/2" speaker) with two having a high pass filter at the connector for the tweeters up by the handle. Since I only needed one lead per side to feed the crossover of the polks, I took them from the lead to the 6 1/2" speakers. I'm getting a full range sound but the volume is about 1/2 of what the rears are. It can be adjusted with the fader control but that doesn't actually fix the situation.
Any thoughts?
Regards,
Mike

Which Polks do you have?
The DB6500's have a sensitivity of 92 db/W, close to the efficiency of the
rear speakers, while the MMC6500's and the SR6500's are 90 db/W, which
is about 63% as efficient as the DB's.

The mmc690's have a sensitivity of 91, the DB690's are 93.
You'd think the DB6500's (92) and the MMC690's (93) would be pretty evenly
matched in terms of efficiency/loudness.
Not sure why they're not. Make sure the fronts are in phase with the rears,
and double check the wiring. Maybe the acoustics of the car interior plays
a role as well.

Phase of the speakers should be ok as I checked that as I wired them up....the acoustics of the compartment I don't believe to be an issue...still baffled...I heard some h/k speakers, not the whole system, in a mini and was very impressed with sound quality, presence, bass and volume....
