IMHO I don't like it. Looks like the top half of one car and the bottom half of another.

But that's only my opinion.... I could be wrong...

Looks a bit homologated to me.
Perhaps keep the top chrome, do the chrome middle grill, and keep the bottom intake with the mesh.

I dig the phantom stripes!

Cheers,
Ryan

Have to agree with what has been said. It doesn't look balanced, go either all chrome or all black. I think of the 2 chrome would be the better. Just my opinion.

I do have to say that I love the stripes ! They look really sharp! I would love to put those on my Chile. Where did you get them? cost? Did you install yourself? Do they extend on top and rear boot?

His, Chile Red all over / Hers, EB UJ on top.

I'm sure you can figure it out with some help from your MINI dealer. I definately think you should do it though. It looks like a poorly designed kit right now, but once you get the bottom piece it will look great. I definately like the chrome bits.

I have to agree that the mix of two different styles is not pleasing to me, although I do understand how the bottom grill goes with the b;ack mesh in the air dam opening. Here is another thought. If you could get the chrome outside curved piece of a lower grille, but then use the black mesh from the aero kit in both the upper and lower grilles, replacing the chrome slats, it could look really nice.

the whole thing is that that piece does not fit w/ the aero kit bumper

The top aero grill piece goes on both front ends no problem. It's the bottom that's the bugger. I gather you'd prefer all chrome if you could get it. Here's what I did:

I have to admit, for a cohesive look, I think you should go all one way or the other. By the way, there is no way to do the chrome surround and the black mesh grill pieces, they're all one unit. Anybody that can manage to do that had better post it, because I don't think anyone has yet.

I guess you could have all the plstic pieces sent off to be chromed. I think. Don't know how much that would cost or how it would look.

im definately keeping the top chrome, for some reason w/ the contrasting colors it makes the aero bumper look more extreme, it makes it stand out

i dont know wat to do, that idea of puttin outside chrome curve and inside black mesh would look by far the best, but i dont think it is possible

"painting" on chrome is impossible. Chrome Paint is BAD Repeat after me, BAD BAD BAD! Chrome-like paint usually attracts fingerprints and matte's out REALLY Fast....
and no one wants that!
and sending something out to get chromed is a good idea, find out how much they'd charge you to fit you in on a pre-existing chroming order... Chroming is sometimes done "per flat" as opposed "per piece". There are places near me that chrome "per flat" and it is A LOT Cheaper. Especially if you have a LOT of pieces to chrome.... and chroming rates are not that expensive.... just prep it out to their specs before you submit it...

Good Luck!

lbboarderh2o,
If you like it you should leave it just as it is.

Judging by the opinions of others here you will have a VERY unique car - because no-one else will do the same

one way or the other, no question about it. looks mismatched, like you took the parts from another car after you got in a wreck!

With this many mixed reviews I think it's just going to be up to you! No getting out of this decision now.

Have you contacted any body shops? I gather you'd put the chrome bottom grill on if you could- my dealer wouldn't touch my idea (aero grills on a stock bumper), but they recommended a body shop which they took a lot of their BMW work to, so it was a good one, and used to working on MINIs. I did have to give the body shop guys a pep talk after they realized what I was asking for, but they decided to go for it, and were glad to take my money a couple of hours later. I've absolutely NEVER regretted getting the look I wanted. Hope you have success on your end. As far as I know, no one has done what I've done yet, and if you're successful getting a stock grill on an aero bumper, I think you'll be a first as well.
