New Antenna look!

Slight new look to my antenna. Alta shortly with white vinyl checks. Cap was painted with Bulldog Bond Flex Tri Coat “rubber primer” and white enamel.

Very nice!! This would sell as a manufactured product. I think there would be good demand for this.

That looks really good! It would be especially cute on a checkmate or checker roofed car

So let me see if I understand this correctly...it's a standard Alta shorty antenna, but you used some white vinyl and cut it into pieces and stuck them on to make it look like it is checkered?

It looks really really cool! I have the checkered rearview mirror cover and this would be a nice little (no pun intended) addition.

More details please! How'd ya do it? How long did it take? It looks like the pieces of white vinyl are larger at the bottom and get smaller at the top, is that right or is it my eyes playing a trick on me?

Nice job!

Thanks folks!!

The vinyl was rapped around the entire antenna. Then cut the checker pattern using a sharp razor blade. I have a height gage so I could set the different heights and cut around the antenna. The vertical cuts where made by laying it flat, running the blade along the length in 4 sections. Finally took of every other one to make the checkers. No time at all. I had the base ckecker also, but it was to much.

What kind of vinyl did you use and where did you get it?

Again, looks awesome!

Okay how much for you to make one for me?? seriously I have the checkered Mirror caps even on the Rearview and this would just be perfect. But I wouldn't blame you if you want to remain original. But in that case you never should have showed us

I have a few things I need to work out if I dicide to make these. The check shorty it's self is no big deal to do. If you have one allread you could mail it to me, other wise its like $30.00. The antenna base however needs some road testing if you will . Want to make sure the paint holds up on that rubber ? I don't know what MINI is charging for those bases. Also what kind of time I have in each.
Let me road test on ( The DRAGON ) and look into some prices.

Thanks again everyone.

Any thoughts on a candy cane look? Hey it's just a thought!
I'd like a red/black checker myself.

Well that pretty much dictates what I'll be doing this weekend!

Great Job!

And how come people on this forum understand that taking the time to put checkers on your MINI's antenna (or a light in your gear shift, or a new power outlet, etc.) is completely normal and a productive use of one's time, but family and friends think it's crazy?!
