simpliest way to check is to run a magnet on it... if it sticks its mild steel, if it doesnt its likely stainless

my guess is probably galvanized steel, as it is cheaper than stainless... but please do find ouit

This went around a while ago and i asked for wind tunnel tests and was flamed ..... seriously......aerodynamics are nothing to fool with......any of you fly small planes?.....control surfaces are small and do lots....next time your in a commercial airliner look at how little the control surfaces are moving...... also non linear deflection/changing shape in unknown ways makes them unpredicatble........ this reminds me of the guy who riveted wings onto his Lincoln and drove off a ramp to "fly" across a river...... wings ripped off immediately car in the drink..... this could be you......that being said......where do I get them?

where are you getting these in Japan? i travel to Asia quite often myself
and want to see this pieces of metal in person. it reminds me of the
aluminum guage TEIN gives me when i buy their coilovers. huh,
may I should just drill some holes and put that under my car in various
locations.

Hey Kenchan,
Most of the MINI tuning shops carry these.

You don't believe these work so why bother though? Go for the DIY!!. I prefer the stuck cardboard option you mentioned earlier to the Tein gauge thingy. Please post some pics

I also have the wings on my car (mid-setting). The effect is similar to what has been posted, i.e., the car does feel heavier, even at speeds up to 90-100 mph. I have not noticed any change in the apparent acceleration. In addition, the tight curves are a bit less intimidating, in that I sense that the car is more planted.

Of course, these comments are subjective in nature; however, they are based on experience, unlike some of the hyper-critical banter by those who have absolutely no experience with the product as well as that of the self-appointed pundits. Objective comments from aeronautical and automotive engineers about design would indeed be meaningful. Also, statements from those drivers who have experience with items like the undercarriage wing would be helpful.

As explained by "pfunk", he is bringing back JDM parts for the Mini that are not available in the U.S. His decisions are based on what is being done in Japan by well known and respected tuners and manufacturers, and the experience of performance drivers. If you feel the product(s) are poorly designed, ineffectual, too expensive, or what-not, then spend your money elsewhere. BTW, no outrageous or extreme claims have been made by "pfunk" about the wings or any other product he is bringing back for the Mini community.

Not only that but "pfunk' has handled several pages of pot-shots and snarky comments with uncommon grace and humor.

Well, I have to confess I did tell Dan that his MINI will turn into a Formula 1 car if he gets these wings though..... and he bought it! Stupid man.

I have two more sets.

These wings will make your car into a flying car. Cut your commute time by (up to) 90% !! No pilot license necessary.

This "no outrageous or extreme claims" policy is really working! I have one more set left and I'm done!

Turn your MINI into a space rocket! Be the first one to take your MINI to the moon! (NASA approved)

wings review

[SIZE=2][SIZE=2]well the wings has been on the car for over a week now and i have to say they work as advertise. they add enough stablilization at speed without the need for spoilers which they do not claim to replace in their affectiveness. roadtest- theres the I-580 West ramp from I-980 East which is a fast left sweeper that i take a lot and the car always feel a bit nervous when i keep speed or accelerate more and especially when on the left inside lane and about to hit the apex. the car now feels more stable with less wheel corrections while taking that turn. also another is I-238 North enterance on Castro Valley Blvd i take a lot (after playing wangan ) that i usually drive quick and because it has several sweeps before merging with I-880 North it gets kind of loose because of the hard off camber right turn before the sweeps. with the wings on, the car stays planted through the turns now. Note- i drive in a safe controlled manner without endagering other drivers on the road. as for the quality, the wings and the hardware feel as if they can easily stand the force of many debris that goes under our cars. overall, the wings work as they should- the car feels more stable and planted without the need of adding spoilers. i like it.

how much as in price or the affect? well the price was 180 and drop a pm to pfunk as hes in japan and he could order somemore. well for the affect, i'm not a expert, but i think it uses the same idea as the extensions (or wickerball) on a evo vllll spoiler except the ones they used for the wings are a lot more bigger. don't expect it to replace spoilers... its more like to enhance airflow under the car.

Those will never sell. You can't show them off in the parking lot at the meets. Maybe they should come with a mirror on a telescoping rod so people can peek at them. But why bother. They look like underarm shields for cars. They serve about the same purpose as the sunshade on the back window of the Mini that is billed as a spoiler.

I run some pretty mean twisties in the hills around here that have plenty of dips and crests and a lot of the times my car gets all light on me so I'm really considering buying the wings, but I'm cheap and won't part with $200 if it gives me a negligible effect. Would you guys that bought it, do it again and would it help with my problem? Would a front splitter be a better aero part to solve the problem I'm having?

Softer springs, more flexible tires or just slow down. Wings are designed to create downforces at high speeds on smooth surfaces. They are not going to resist the force of a 3000lb car being launched on a bump. And to create down force a wing has to have a surface area in proportion to the object being forced down and it has to be in the wind flow.
