Don't underestimate it! I just bought a tow hitch for the MINI, and some of the stuff previous hitch-owners did with them! I also own an F150 w/tow pkg, so I'm not unfamiliar with the going from big truck to little MINI... Just don't underestimate the MINI!!!!

I am thinking more and more about getting a hitch and either making or buying a tear drop trailer for the mini. I sold the Bronco because of the gas prices. Maybe I can still go camping with the mini.. Just not anywhere where I need to crawl over rocks.

Not to hi-jack this thread, but Bang110 do a search for "tow" or "towing" and check out what comes up. They even have campers towed by MINIs!

OK - back on track. I thought of some other stuff I routinely keep in the MINI. Pen & paper! (Sorry if it was already mentioned.)

Added a Slime kit. Includes bottle of slime, and small air compressor. Weighs about 3 lbs.

Also added 2 4 ft tie downs to the boot. I have then hooked to the metal loops closest to the hatch, and then trought the ones across the boot the across to the other loop closest to the hatch. Both of these together are great for holding small things in the boot. All for the grand total of $4.

May I assume you're referring to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?

Don't forget a handful of peanuts... It's important to replace protein after those 'hitchhikes'.

True, but a true hitchhiker knows you can just soak the towel in nutrients and eat it!

It's been too long since I read the books... but I can still remember having to eat the peanuts after hitchhiking before fainting in the text game (a la Zork) and being flushed out to the depths of space by the Vogons.

You know what's horribly hilarious about this? I really DO have a towel in my car. Gym bag, but still!!

Oh wow, I remember that game! It was a pain to get the Babel Fish out of the vending machine before the Vogons came. Drove my Mom nuts when I'd play it on our old Mac.

I should say that my emergency kit consists of:
Jumper cables
Slime flat tire kit
2 towels…

Bump for an old, but good thread!

In the past few weeks, I used my tow strap to pull a stranded Toyota Camry out of an icy parking space when he couldn't get any traction. I also would have used the bottle of water to fill the coolant tank of a MINI that was overheating on the side of the road, but apparently I used it and didn't replace it! DOH!!!! I bought a 1L bottle today and restocked my supply of granola bars.

It's spring... time to do some cleaning and go through the bag to make sure that it is complete and organized.
