Interior/Exterior Window Tint - Factory vs. custom
Window Tint - Factory vs. custom
I've been looking at getting windows tinted but wanted to make sure I stay legal. Our friendly VA State Troopers have the simple device to measure the % of light coming through, so I stopped by today and had them do it for me (in the rain even! - I had to hold an umbrella over the trooper while he dried off the window and put the device on).
Looks like the factory tint on the door's/side windows is already at 70%. So, putting 50% on top of this would result in 35% overall tint, a violation in our state for the front seat windows.
If I did the math right, the most I could put on would be another 70% sheet which would get it down to about 50% overall. I can't picture what this would look like so I might stop by a tint shop and have them lay a sheet over it.
BTW, 35% is okay for the rear and rear seat windows, just not the front seat windows. I wanted to avoid that "two-tone" look on the windows.
Thoughts? Comments?

if you want to stay legal dont tint anything but your back windows and boot window. I have seen some JB cars with 35% on the rear and back and it doesn't look too bad and leaving the fronts clear. Do a quick search in the galleries and see what you come up with.

you might want to take a look at V-kool which is an almost clear tint(~70%) but blocks UV rays and heat..
I have 35% regular tint on mine. So far none of the troopers noticed it. My friend who got the same tint was stopped on the highway. The trooper took out the device, measured and wrote him a ticket. I guess it just depends on luck.
