Why do you need a CG Lock?

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this before, but you do NOT need the CG lock.
Using your own seatbelt you can lock the lap belt AND the shoulder restraint. Here's how:
1) move your seat back a couple of clicks.
2) pull your lap belt tight and let the tensioner take up the slack.
3) jerk quickly on the shoulder portion of the belt to get the cam to engage (lock).
4) Lean into the belt to keep tension on it and slide your seat forward to a position where you can reach the pedals comfortably and you are snug in place.
I've done this both for autocross and Track Schools.

It takes a bit of practice to get it just right. But it works, keeps both your lower AND upper body in place, and its FREE!!

Are you sure you've done this on the MINI? The passenger side locks as does the rear passenger belt, but not the driver side. In any regards, CG Lock is easy to use and doesn't require you to adjust your seat position--but sure, there's always more than 1 way to skin a cat.

Btw, a Miata owner sent me this link on our forums---some guy is selling 50 CG Locks for $30 each.

Actually, I did mention that earlier, since I use this method every run. I'm just not sure if the "freebie CG lock" trick is as good as the real deal.

Also, OctaneGuy, I think you are thinking of the method to strap car seats in place, where you have to pull the entire belt out and then it locks. You can get the drivers' side belt to lock by scooting the seat back, jerking on the upper portion (like audioman said), and holding it there while you move your seat up to your perferred driving position.

re: CG-Lock Details

An update:
I've been using the child seat clip daily for over a month. Works just fine. No need to adjust it once you get it properly adjusted. Used it at driving school in Nashville. Worked well there too. Not too heavy-belt retracts ok.

Just remembered that I have two of these in their original packaging that I have never installed. . . .

Maybe I should try it for the dragon even though I am bringing my harness. . . ?????

Remember CG Lock is essential if you got passengers in the back seat.
Since harnesses can't be installed--nor is it safe to have harnesses installed with people back there--creates a tangled trap should they need to get out fast.

You got a passenger harness?? CG Lock is good there--it's not seat specific--meaning there isn't a driver/passenger version.

BMovierat-- Thanks for the clarification.

Judy won one of these at the Phil Wicks Jubilee Banquet raffle, and gave it to me!

I installed it shortly afterward, and have been using it for daily driving. I really like the functionality, but the design of the cam release causes it to jab into my gut in my normal seating position. It seems like it would be much more comfortable with some kind of smooth shield under the corner with the cam release.

Anyway, I like it enough that I'm considering purchasing a second one for the passenger seat.

Because I use mine daily, it's weird, a little uneasy actually, sitting in a MINI or any car for that matter without one.

I find that occasionally the cam does jab my gut as well, but it only takes a quick adjustment of releasing the cam, and moving it slightly outwards, then tightening again.

The other time I find it jabbing me is because the lap portion is twisted, so I run my hand from where the seat belt comes from the floor, and run it along to the cam portion of the CG LOCK to ensure its smooth and not twisted.

Sometimes I find my choice of clothing influences this, as does my butt position. Always got to make sure the butt is fully into the seat before tightening down the CG LOCK.
