TEFLON or not on senders??

Hi all:

I am installing an oil temperature gauge right now. After doing a search online, I am still not satisfied whether to put teflon on the temperature sender or not.

One site mentions that by putting a teflon, you might get false readings because it will not properly ground these senders, such as these links: one two three.... While other sites mention by not putting teflon you might get leaks.. While others mention about just doing a "one layer of Teflon: One

HELP

thanks

According to the last source..... “Ground is normally maintained in the threads of the sending unit. Use only 1 wrap of Teflon tape on sender threads to assure no leaks or loss of ground”.

This says it all. The Teflon will fill-in between the treads, but still allow the “edges” of the threads to make contact. Folks sometimes tend to think "one layer is good......so ten must be better!"

Thanks Dale.. It's kinda tuff to get in there so I just want to do it one time.. Different gauge companies also have different thought in either putting teflon or not..

in my experience with teflon after 1 use it is all cut and has holes in it so I wouldn't worry to much about the ground; just be conservative about it ( DONT USE THE WHOLE ROLL) and you should be ok.

Thanks Josh.. I guess I won't try to use up a teflon tape roll on each of my senders

I'll just be using one layer and I guess try to monitor if I get false readings..

Thanks

Extra teflon tape is frequently used to intentionally desensitize knock sensors in domestic cars.

Why not use the drain plug for the sending unit, a la the official MINI oil temp gauge?
