Does anyone know where can you buy some small pieces of film? I guess I could give this a try and see how it goes. If I have problems, I can always change it in the future

I think Moss MINI sells kits for it. Otherwise, why not give a local vinyl sign shop a call?

maybe someone can make a lexan lens replacement... i mean that is the bulletproof stuff... get 1/8in thick stuff and cut it nicely... should withstand about...a sledge to the face without breaking....

expensive yes... but no more replacements ever...

Lexan may be "bulletproof" but it is really prone to scratches.

The lexan will cause the melting? People have been using the 3M clear shield material on the Xenons and other lights on their MINIs and I've yet to hear of anyone having melting issues.

Yeah, I can't feel any heat coming off of my Xenons when standing in front of my car, but with all 4 of my lights on, my leg feels like its getting sunburned. I decided to go ahead and try the clear plastic covers as I know those will be OK to use with the lights on. I've been kinda wishy washy about it today, but I ordered them now, so no turning back

My PIAA 540's are protected with the clear adhesive protector film. I have upgraded the wattage from the stock 55watts to the off-road only 85watt bulbs, so I've got about as much heat being created inside the lamps as would be possible.

Despite the unfounded speculation here, my actual real world experience shows that I've yet to melt the protective film. . . .

Mandaboo, you can get a 12x12 inch piece of headlamp film for $15 here. Assuming that your lights are 6 inches diameter, some careful cutting will get you 4 circles for $15. Not a bad deal at all!

edit: Looks like you ordered the clear covers. . . they will be super cool!

Oh well, I'm kind of a pansy ***

Plus, I had some thing in my lab catch on fire today that really shouldn't have next to the heat source I was using, in a situation similar to my lights and I thought about it too much

I love it when threads here get silly!

Sorry about the fire in the lab. . . and I hope the super-intelligent chimps didn't escape!

Good job, Wagnbat!

I like those clear IPF light covers, and found that they ARE compatible with the lights that are in the Alta kit.

Alta's kit has the 968 light, and these covers fit that!

see this link: http://www.4by4connection.com/ipfcllico.html

I might have to order me a set.

Just goes to show that we really should not bash SUV's quite as much as we do around here, since some of the off-road products can cross-over into the MINI world quite nicely!

For instance, I have been considering adding some sort of really nice locking security storage container made by Tuffy. This little "Mini" storage box might just fit under the passenger seat with access only if the seat is moved all the way forward. . . or it could be put in the boot. . . .

The lightbar looks good, wag...

Maybe some silver covers. Custom. with bat emblems... OR redo the covers you have, by having them done at a body shop.

I smell a mod coming...

For you guys/gals ordering the clear covers, you can paint the inside similar to RC car bodies. That'll keep the cover looking sharp and avoid chips. Unless you want to use the lights w/ the covers on (had to put that note in there in case someone paints thier covers and they burst into flames and want to sue me)

You could always paint in a MINI emblem (bats work too) and it would shine through like the bat signal!

Wish they made this sort of thing for the OEM driving lights. I've already replaced two of them - and at $120 a piece - that ain't exactly pocket-change.

I really like the look of the 4 lights low-down to the ground, but unfortunately, that set-up is illegal here in New Jersey. For some reason, there's a friggin' law (hey, this IS 'Joisey afterall!!! ) that states it's illegal to have more than 4 lights on at any one time on a passenger vehicle. How folks with 4x4's and SUVs get away with it, I don't know. But I modified the wiring of my OEM driving lights so they can be on independantly from my hi-beams, and I got pulled over and given a $50 dollar ticket!!!

Yup - that'll make society safer officer - Good work!! scheeeez....

We have pretty much the same law, but I figure that whenever I have these lights on noone will be around me anyway as they are so frickin bright, so I don't care

That would be really neat for wagnbat! What would be really cool is if you could find some kind of paint that is light colored, so it would be hard to see in the daylight, but then when you turn on your lights, the bat shape is visible through the lights

Maryland law says similar. "No more than 4 beams more than 300 candlepower may be on at one time on a highway".

Key word being highway.

Also, I've got the lights wired up to two circuits, inner and outer, and they only turn on when the hi-beams are on, disabling the fogs. So I can turn one set on, and have my two high beams, and I'm still legal on the highway.

But then again, the light aren't for the highway. They're for non-lit country backroad runs.

LOL, nice try. Put six on a County Road and they will nail you.

A Private Lane would be OK because that is Private property.

Sorry ...
