Thanks for the quick response. I am going to Helix tom. to have a pulley installed--it is great to know you are happy with their work--I have heard nothing but positive things. Impressive list of mods, I bet as soon as you get one completed you are already planning the next one...

I told my girlfriend that the "mini is perfect and there's nothing I'd need to change"

Here's a pic of my sunshade that I snapped today:

As you can tell, I have removed the velcro tabs. They are unnecessary and look quite bad if you ask me. Just had to remove them carefully and the part just snaps right into the slot. They are advertised as a perfect fit but it's just ever so slightly off right at the rear. This is a geniune OEM mini part btw.

What y'all think?

Does anyone sell the cowl scoops without having to buy both. I would only want the driver side one since that would be the only functional one for my intake. . . . ???

I doubt it. I would think that it might look a little funny just to have it on one side. I like the symmetry.

Speaking of functionality, you could theoretically come up with a design that would draw air in from the passenger side and funnel it on over to the driver side. Might be a fun project methinks....

Also, I took it for a spin after cutting out some of the material near the CAi and it really does make a noticeable difference....Feels like the car pulls just a bit more and you can definitely hear a difference.......

By the way, I took a look at the hood today and I noticed that air does travel from the passenger side to the driver side.

The hood seals the top of the engine bay on the passenger side and if you shine a flashlight from the passenger side to the driver side, lo and behold you see light on the driver's side.

This means air is actually moving through!

So it's not a waste!

Why drill holes in the partition next to the intake? Why not just remove it altogether?

Also for the cowl scoops, wouldn't the passenger side one help cool the brakes maybe just a tiny bit. I say this because I have a set on the way

I took it apart and was trying to figure out how to take it out initial plan was to drill it outside of the car......

But then I realized I had to remove the bottom part of the stock airbox and ecu and it was just too much hassle.

So I just used some tape, covered up the intake pipe of the K&N CAI, dremmeled right there with evertyhing in place (minus the actual filter element) and had bits and piece of molten plastic flying everywhere.

A quick sweep with a household vac and I slapped everything back in.

By the way, I would not be surprised if this mod adds 1-2hp because I can definitely feel the difference now. It's really quite amazing.

And MDSBRAIN, I saw you bidding on that Ebay set. I had bought mine like a day or two before that auction came up....Used, a few nicks and scratches, but for $90, I'm happy. And plus I don't need to paint them.....

Do me a favor and install the scoops and drive around and see if it makes much difference. Then, if you are so inclined, drill the holes and see the difference. I think you will be pleasantly surprised!

Hm. Maybe I'll do the ol' thread o' yarn test.....

One day when it rained cats and dogs I saw the water dispersion pattern as it dried on my hood......and it what I do remember is the water spreading out from the center of the hood and being pushed out to the side.....

Not sure about the negative pressure theory as Obehave seemed to have actually measured the cowl area and produced results indicating slight positive pressure.

I'm telling you that after I put the hood scoops in AND drilled the holes, I got some major difference in the way the car felt and sounded.

I don't see these guys drilling holes in the wall between the CAI and the firewall. The stock configuration has a rubber grommet that gives a slight opening in the "mini-wall" if you will......

And maybe I got lucky in the way I drilled the holes (i.e. 5 little ones at the top, one on the side, and one long skinny one along the back) that helps in some way.

All I've got to offer is the ol' butt dyno and the HUGE grin on my face.

Oh and btw I think I'm right.

Im not saying your wrong I am just reading two different stories. If it works for you, great The parts look good.

It just seemed that they were talking maybe 1 HP up over 50 MPH but you have drilled where they have not.

Sorry, didn't mean to come across as snooty or anything...

By the way, I just drove home and out of curiousity, I did the "stick-hand-on-the-air-filter" test I just recently developed and noticed that the area of the air filter element was COLD TO THE TOUCH as opposed to everything else in the engine compartment that was HOT to the touch including the BACK of the air filter that is FURTHER away towards the front of the car.

Now if that don't prove it, I don't know what does.
