Roof Rack Questions (luggage carrier)

I've read through multiple posts on here about roof racks. Most of them reffer to carrying bikes. I'm not a biker, and I don't plan on transporting bikes. I am a road tripper, and I need a little more room for luggage. I thought a luggage box would do the trick! I don't want to go the OEM route, as I'm not interested in having the roof drilled. I'm thinking either Yakima, or Thule. I will be adding a luggage box onto this, so that I have more storage.

Does anyone have either a Yakima or Thule with a luggage box? Which do you have? How do you like it?

Thanks!
Steve

The factory roof rack has a weight limit of 160-170 pounds. Non-factory roof racks have significantly lower weight limits (like < 100 lbs, including luggage box). Of course I have no idea if this will cause you a problem since I don't know what type of rack & box you will buy and how much luggage you will have.

Just something to keep in mind when you are shopping.

Roof cargo box

Here is a picture of the Thule cargo box on my W8 Passat. It is full width and would be compatible with the Mini.

Hi,

I just got the Yakimas racks. I also wasn't interested in the drilling the roof. I got the standard ones for my surfboards with the fairings which helps a great deal when your sun roof is open. Without it there's a great deal of wind noise. I don;t have the luggage box but this gives you an idea what it looks like.

I got it at Sportsrack store, and it cost me about $299 with the fairings. Not sure how much the luggage box cost.
