painted plastic trim

Anyone have any success painting the black trim around the Mini-S? The plastic has little beads on them and the local painted in my area(ATL, GA) won't do the paint job. They won't guarantee it. I like to have them painted but wonder if any has success in painting them and the process involved so that I can maybe recommend the same procedure to the loca body shop. I have one that will do it but won't guarantee it but he will listen to someone who knows how to paint them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

They color is dark silver/gray.

Thanks/

Yes, the black plastic trim (well arcs, bumpers, etc) can be painted. I had mine done at auto body shop that does this for many minis (the Denver Mini Dealer uses them as well).

The process is that they need to sand the plastic to a smooth finish before priming and painting. Of course all the parts that are to be painted need to be removed before this process begins.

I would not recommend being the 1st customer of a body shop to do this. I recommend finding a shop that has done this before and has some experience (and good results) doing it.

Try calling your nearest Mini dealer to see if they have done this and find out which shop they use.

Good luck!

Thanks,

This does't sound like a real competent body shop!!

Had mine painted with no problems, should run you $6-800 with them removing/painting/reinstalling.

I'm going to have my trim painted black on my MC in the next month also, my DS MCS has the trim as well as the mirrors painted body color

I removed the arches and prepped them myself with repeated sanding and priming. Then, I had the body shop to do the actual painting of the arches, the aero kit, and also some of the interior pieces. All for $450.

Hence, it will be less expansive to remove, prime, and install them yourself.
