Chrono Woes

Is there anyway to modify the look of the center console cluster on the chrono pack so that it is more appealing? Is there a vendor decal..or a DIY paint project...or a replacement cluster available? I tell you, it is such an eyesore in the cabin. Though the info it provides is valuable, aesthetically, it's one of the worst designed things I've seen within any car.

Slap in a central speedo, and a swap in a 2-spoke wheel with tach above. You'll have your interior back to the way it was meant to be and you'll be much happier with the aesthetics. They got it right the first time.

Ideally, I like the idea of a central speedo, but I'd have to rewire it so that the speedo harness went there and then buy an OEM center speedo with some aftermarket pod guages to get all that info back. That's costly. I'd also lose the onboard computer, which has some good extra info like range, temp., mileage, etc. Realistically, I can handle the speedo and revs being over the steering column, but would like to make the center cluster look more appealing. Doesn't somebody make a replacement plate that reconfigures the look of it? Sort of like the replacement taillights that still have the parking, turn, and brake lights, but that rearranges the design.

The chrono pack is a popular option and most owners like it. Speedo is moved on top of the steering wheel where it can be seen easily.

A german company CTD used to carry alternate speedo faces in various colors but no longer. I'd think that before too long they or a Japanese company, would make similar colored faces for the chrono pack. Just stay tuned.

In my own experience, I have found that reading the steering wheel mounted speedo is actually harder to read at a glance than the centrally mounted one. The steering mounted speedo is too small and the steering wheel obscures it a bit.

Question for Undertheradar..... Did you originally order the car with the Chrono pack or did you buy your car off the dealer lot?

minihune - Thanks for that link. I'll keep an eye out.

Cooper4us - It came off the lot that way. It was the only 05 S I could find in Southern California without a premium package, so I snagged it.

I don't hate the chrono. I love having all that info...I just hate the layout.

Definitely costly, but could be worth it if you're that unhappy with the "Chrono Pack." Not sure you'd lose the OBC, actually. Afaik, that was a pre-Chrono option.
