Now see, Doug, you've been over there on MINI2 and picked up some of their British sayings and now you've misused one:smile: . Saying your car would look "pants" is a bad thing . Sorry I don't have any info on the headlights! But I agree, they look great!

Fast enough that the painted headlights didn't cushion his impact at all!

Headlights looked good but the rest of the car needs some detailing . Bad day though for whoever was in the car.

I definitely agree, the headlights look great. I bet they are available at a salvage yard somewhere right now!

Headlights

You Can Probably Use A Hair Dryer Around The Edges And Slowly Pry It Off And Then Just Replace The Glue

No, no offense at all! I was just giving you a hard time as I'm bored at work right now. I will see if I can find anything out for you!

EDIT:

I found this thread on a Celica web site:http://www.celicagarage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1185 I know it won't be exactly the same, but it does offer some tips about the oven part. Maybe some of it will be useful to you (I hope ).

I took a set of rears apart but never thought to heat them up, damn that might have made it a lot easier. Any ideas on what kind of glue/sealant to use putting them back together? The factory sealant was black and hard as a rock.

IF.....the headlights are vaccum sealed, you will allow moisture to enter once you take them apart. You then stand a good chance of your headlights fogging up on the inside and becoming a real mess.

They can't be vacume sealed...If you remove the high beam bulb, you can stick your finger inside

This is called a Joey Mod in Golf and Jetta land, where I had originally seen it done years ago. It has become a very popular mod--and is pretty easy--but time consuming due to the delicate silver foil covering the fixtures. Here are some links in case it can be done similarly on a MINI:

Very detailed DIY:

Joey Mod party with a beauty R32 w/black rims:

If you get it done, be sure to post pics.

I modified several sets of rear. You can't heat them to split them because you will damage them before you get them warm enough to split. I used a combination of two part apoxy and RTV black to reseal them. I was blacking out the red reflector area inside the tail and lightly tinting the inside of the lenses.

Me and a few friends asked this quite some time ago on this board. Lots of things were thought of. I forget who it was, but someone out there tried the oven process of melting the glue and ruined the headlight assembly($$$$$$).

I would love to know how to do this. I have been waiting for a long time, but no one can figure it out. bummer...

SumWon, how did you get the taillight assembly open
