Sanding the arches for painting

Has anybody done it themselves? Should I leave this task to the professionals or attempt to do it myself, then deliver the parts to the paint shop?

Sanding arches

I am thinking of doing the same thing. From what I have heard it is not real easy - interesting to see what come up here.

I was wondering the same thing...especially if you could get an orbital sander and sand it down?

From what I have read people use a primer that lays down thick then sand that. I would think that sanding that plastic would leave marks unless you went down to 400 grit.

Just be sure if you do it that you get them completly smooth. Give the primer some time to shrink back, if you dont after you paint it the texture might still show. I have seen a bunch of cars with painted arches and some stil show the texture, some more than otherst but to me it looks bad when the texture shows....almost defeats the point of painting them.

When we did mine they shrunk back slightly so we sanded them again and re painted them.
