Remove 2002-2004 door armrests?

Anyone know how to do this without breaking them? Thinking of reupholstering in leather with blue double stitching to match my diy leather downtube covers. Anyone know how to tackle this?

I've only removed a pair from a 2008 junkyard car that I intended to swap mine with but haven't changed out yet. Many times when I go to the junkyard I like to practice such stuff as trim removal and had a hard time with a stubborn armrest on one car and ended up breaking off a vital tab, so just be cautiously gentle because as usual with our cars the plastic can be super brittle --- the shorter -2004 versions may be easier to release though.

Thanks for the photos!

Mine is an '03, so pre facelift shorter armrests. I don't have the big clip pictured and it definitely will not slide forward. There almost appears to be a ridge-like structure on the back side of the entire arms rest at the bottom. It feels like there are 3 or 4 indents in it for maybe screws from the back side of the arm rest handle into the actual arm rest? Can't get a look back there though becuse there is literally no space. Might try taking a couple pictures with my phone to see what that reveals.

Thanks for the reply - much appreciated!

Yep... did manage to fish my phone in there and get a photo of the reclusive animal. Torx screws at the bare of the arm rest. At least 3 of them. How the hell...

All the friction fit plastic clip bits drive me nuts!

Stuff breaks so easily.

This guy makes it look easy:

But this thread details people having difficulties:

The pre-FL does indeed look different:

Surprised that info is so scarce regarding it, tried to look but couldn't find much.

Ah!

I actually think that's a better design than the FL which are prone to rattles, the screws seem like much more solid.

Tight spot to work with though!
