Hey Termite,

I just picked up the Thule fit kit today and saw your pics with the kit mounted behind the gutter rails. My question is: How did you get the gutter rails off? Mine seem fairly sturdy and I don't want to break them! Thanks in advance....

I'm thinking that's incorrect. I've never seen a roof rack installed like that before - but I could be wrong.

I had a Yakima Rack for the longest time on my old car.. solid as a rock, I could shake the whole car side to side with the bars. Come to think of it maybe I should put it on the MCS, if I ever get stuck just left and go. Anway as far as finding racks in the NJ area Ramsey Outdoors stores carry Thule, and Campmor INC carries both Thule and Yakima. www.campmor.com you should be able to get it online too and Campmor is usual cheaper then most private bike shops.(not always though) Happy Motoring!

That rack doesn't look like it's on right.

Im been talking to the guys @ minimania.com about them creating an exclusive roof rack system with Yakima that would be powdercoated "White" (instead of black) as well as having a "white" loadwarrior basket to give it that classic Mini look.

If you are interested in getting one email Chuck @ info@minimania.com

the dealer

I have a dealer-installed roof rack system. It is worth it. Any issues with it and guess what--it's covered by the warranty. Besides, I trust my MCS to no one but mini- mechs...

he he - I bet it's not covered under warranty if I drive into the garage . At least with the aftermarket racks like Yakima and Thule they come off easier in an accident like this...

distance between cross bars on yakima

i have a yakima rack and i installed per yakimas directions, but the bars seem so close together, why is that, has anyone moved the rear one back behind the door to give more distance and better stability to the things your carrying. i put a snowboard up there and it flopped a bit when i drove and i think that its crazy to have them so close together?

Yeah - I don't know...maybe the Q-clip won't hold as well if you try to mount it behind the door??

Do you have a fairing?

Try using the Q-Stretch Kit. It allows you to seperate the bars farther apart while maintaining clamping strength.

Irmiger! welcome to NAM!!

Good call on the stretch kit. However, f you decide to go this route, just be sure to read any/all of the fitment requirements from Yakima to ensure that clamping anywhere behind their recommended location won't hurt the integrity of the system as a whole.

I have the MINI roof rack. Had it installed 6 months ago and love it. I just recently made the mistake of driving into my garage with bike attached.
Busted the frame of the $1700 road bike and twisted the fork mount carrier. But not a scratch on the main rack. That sucker is sturdy! I didn't even try to get the fork mount carrier covered under warranty. Obviously it was my fault and $100 is not bad especially considering there could have been significantly more damage to my car. That's what would have happened if the rack came off the car. It would have totally scratched the roof at the very least.
And the rack looks like it belongs on the car unlike the aftermarket ones.

Question about the installation of the thule rack. I just purchased Termites rack and am wondering if that is the correct way to install the rack. Hoping to head up the mountain fairly soon so a quick intelligent response would be helpful.

d2 that stinks. But I should mention I got in an accident with my montblanc and neither the rack nor the skis budged. Of course the factory rack is stronger no matter what, but not worth it for just occasional use.
