I know it's a small car and a backup camera seems excessive but...I have neck problems that make it hard to turn my head. Also, all my other vehicles have backup cameras and it's sort of like anything else...once you've got accustomed to something you find it hard to live without. Lastly, this car will be my son's first car in a year and anything I can do to keep insurance rates down will help :-) .

So, I have an R53 (2003 Mini Cooper S) that I'd like to install a backup camera in and replace the rear view mirror with one that has an LCD screen to monitor the rear view. I'm surprised but after a lot of searching, I just can't find any comprehensive information on how to do this. The Mini's mirror is not affixed to the windshield like a typical car so I don't know where to start with that. The other concern I have is that one thing I have found in my searches is repeated references to the electrical system in the Mini not being what would be considered typical and that I'll need some sort of relay.

Does anyone have some advice or could point me to some useful info it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

 

Something like this Auto-Vox version might work for you, though you would need to modify the attachment to your MINI mirror because the mirror is so rounded/deep:

If you have navigation, there is now an aftermarket setup that is supposed to display through the navigation screen like the now discontinued OEM version that was sold in Europe (which I retrofitted).
