Interior/Exterior Removal of dash "AIRBAG" lettering
Removal of dash "AIRBAG" lettering
Thinking out loud here - anyone successfully eradicated the "AIRBAG" lettering on the top of the dash in a 2005?
I'm not talking about the sticker on the glovebox, or the airbag warning labels on the visors. And no, of course I'm not talking about removing the actual airbags themselves, silly. I'm talking about the faint white/grey lettering that spells out "AIRBAG" in capital letters on the top of the dash, just left of where the passenger door meets it. It seems to be printed on there, not molded from or embossed into the plastic. I'm not too fond of it, so this weekend while I'm removing the damn dealer sticker, license plate frame, COOPER S lettering, sunvisor warnings, cupholder, ashtray and other miscellaneous stuck-on things, I'd like to possibly add this to the list.
I don't know if this is a legal thing, or if it's even a good idea, or what not. Just wondering. I'm sure that if I could get it off it would leave enough of an imprint or residue to still make it legible, but just not as noticeable. I haven't tried anything yet either, but if I do I don't want to go melting or marring the dash with anything too harsh.
Suggestions?

We may purchase a 2005 (we have an 02 already) and discussed removing that sticker or whatever it is. My guess would be to use some nail polish remover in very gingerly and see if it comes off. As I said we don't have an 05 so we haven't tested this.
I assume that it is illegal to remove the airbag labels, since they are there to remind you not to put packages on the dash, etc. No cop might ever give you a ticket, but if someone is hurt in an accident, some lawyer might take your house.
