Window Tinting

Hello all. My wife and I just took ownership of our 2005 MCS, and already we are thinking about tinting the windows. I've tinted all of my own cars in the past and the window glass on the mini strikes me as particularly flat and probably very easy to get it to lay down and get the water out.

What I'm wondering about is individual experiences anyone might have had with tinting their own windows. It's been a few years since I purchased the materials. Anyone recommend a good supplier and good brand of tint? I used to use Sungard, which was good stuff several years back. I've been told there is a local shop that does very good work, but I'm just afraid to let anyone touch the car...

Also if I have to take off the door panels to do the side windows, I'd probably want to replace the fasteners. Anyone know where I can buy fasteners that work well on the Mini? I guess I could always call the dealer... I also read through the thread where people were discussing tint for the sunroof. It strikes me as dark enough, especially with the shade pulled. And entirely not worth risking heat expansion breaking that very large piece of glass...

Very hopeful others have tried this and have experiences to share. Thanks.

Were you in Tampa, FL I would refer you to a most excellent installer.

My car is tinted with 3M material:

It was installed professionally, but I watched and helped (got in the way?) the whole time. You do not need to remove the door panels to tint the side windows, you just need to put a screwdriver in the latch to get the window to go all the way up with the door open.

I have been very happy with the film and have it on several of my other cars as well.

Basicly you put it where the bit attached to the car would go into the door latch.

You are simulating that the door is actually closed in a way, tricking it to set the window into the correct position.
