Interior/Exterior MiniFini Hood Scoop Grill [Product Review]
MiniFini Hood Scoop Grill [Product Review]
In anticipation of eventually getting the AEM Cold Air Intake I went ahead and purchased the MiniFini stainless hood scoop grille. Got it in the mail a few days later and decided to put it in this afternoon.
Overall I'd give it a 9/10. Granted, it's a pretty simple piece. Then again, IME some of the simplest pieces are those most easily overlooked for good fit/finish.
It's designed to be a near-permanent installation. The stock unit has four mounting holes/screws while this one has two holes and four tabs. The tabs have a thin padded piece that glues to the underside of the scoop housing. The two screw holes lined up nearly perfectly with the mounting holes.
With Connecticut winters, I wanted to leave my options open to switch back to the stock unit so I didn't bother with the stick-um tabs. In looking at the design of the grille and the hood scoop housing, only using the two mounting holes is not going to be a problem. The other screw holes in the housing are angled such that the new grill will be held in place just fine as-is.
Instructions are included and they're very clear. It even has a small stick of primer so the stick-um tabs have something to really bite into rather than the body paint.
I ran into two things when doing this. Apparently my workshop is in short supply (read: none) of plastic tools appropriate for prying out the scoop housing. The other issue was the weakness of one of the retention studs on the housing. I ended up breaking one and needing to gorilla glue it back in place. After reinstall is looks like the glue held, but I won't really know until I have to remove it again.
