Shift Boot O-Ring Removal MT

Could anyone give me detailed instructions on how to remove the silver o-ring at the base of the shift boot of a 2013 Gen2 MC R56 with manual transmission. I have a multi-purpose trim removal kit made of hard plastic. Nylon? Anyway I can get a tool in there and can even pry successfuly. I just wasn't sure how to proceed. Do I need to insert pins to hold back clips? Does it just pry upward. I've seen a picture of the bottom but am still not sure how to proceed. Thanks
Paddy
