i am installing the aux. input which really is no problem at all. The problem lies in the fact that i am trying to split the input, allowing for the female aux (factory) to be used for my Archos MP3 and in addition I spliced in a male mini-stereo plug to attach to my XM delphi unit. Now before you start shaking your heads, it works. But the spliced in male input only works for about ten seconds and then the head unit switches to CD mode. Once I remove the input signal and cycle back through the modes AUX is recognized. With my limited, home grown electronic experience I am figuring that the head unit recognizes there is a problem and as a saftey percaution it is shutting it down. My question is, is does anyone know a way around the problem. I appreciate any help i can get since i am waiting so patiently to put in my parcel shelf....thanks!

Maybe an A/B switch of some sort would do the trick for you...

If you wired in an a/b switch or spliced in a second input between te headunit-end of the aux cable and the small module contained about three inches from the original jack-end of the cable, any signal (specifically, a grounding level) introduced here will cause the headunit to 'think' the aux cable is no longer in place. To make an a/b switch work successfully, you need to wire it in after the input module (the 'bump' in the taped harness about three inches from the jack). Once this is done, you can add any number of 'switchable' inputs to the aux. Just select the Aux input on the headunit, and the a/b/c/etc input with the switch you add to select the aux source.

I wonder if this input adapter would work for you-

Quote:
PIE X3 Triple Input Auxiliary Input Adapter
The X3 switchable Auxiliary Input Selector accepts three auxiliary input sources with a CD changer present!

Now you can switch between auxiliary sources at will! The X3 Auxiliary Input Selector allows the user to add up to three auxiliary input sources, connected directly between the CD changer and Ford, GM, and Chrysler audio systems. The X3 interrupts the audio of the CD changer, switching between three user-selectable RCA level auxiliary sources, and defaults back to the CD changer if desired

i was curious as to what the bump in the cable was. I did have it spliced before the bump, so i will give your way a try. Thanks for the help!
