I've read some posts about the front seatbacks getting scratched easily. I wondered, has anyone taken them off and had them painted in either a color to match the dashboard, or the exterior color of the car? I'd imagine they'd have a tough clearcoat on them to make them more durable, and they'd add a racy look, like I've seen in some special edition factory Porsches.

If they're easy to remove, maybe I can send them in with my dashboard pieces and have them painted BRG to match the exterior. Any thoughts?

I'm not sure what kind of paint/clearcoat would be necessary to make them truly scratch-resistent. Lord knows the dash/down tubes/door handles/etc. (which are also painted plastic) scratch like crazy.

I think that the problem is inherent to painted plastic. And the seatbacks scratch 'cause they're cheap plastic. A better solution would be to make seat backs out of some other material...either improved plastic, metal, CF, fiberglass, ???? Assuming you really care about what the seat backs look like.

If you want all leather you could talk to an upholstery shop and ask how much to cover the plastic with something similar to panther leather. You can do the dash and door panels while you are at it. I think a leather dash is pretty nice.
