Interior/Exterior Window Tint
I am getting my rear windows tinted, I have a couple of Q.
1. Can I apply the tint film to the out side.
2. If not, it is safe to attach the film to the inside of the mini windows.
3. How long the tint usually last.
My problem is that my baby is due anytime know and the Uv rays and heat can harm him, so I decided to tint in 35% the back windows and the rear window.
PLEASE HELP
Julian

1. Tint is meant to be applied to the inside of the windows.
2. Yes, It's safe.
3. In my experience about 5 years before bubbles, scratches, clouding etc. cause the need for removing and replacing the tint. Perhaps there's some new, better, tint that I'm not aware of that would last longer.
Since 35% is not especially dark, (it's what I have), why not tint the two front windows also?
I paid $100 to have five windows professionally done.

I got my windows tinted Jan. 03 and I love them. I makes the car look alot better. It doesn't really change the visibility from inside the car, it only makes it darker when look from the outside so if you are worried about not being able to see out of your car, tints do not effect it. Anyways, I found my old pics in the majorly disorded photo gallery and here they are. I have 20% (the lower the % the darker they are) in the rear and back window and 35% in the two front windows. Mine have a lifetime warrenty.

Hey those of you that have done this, what steps did you take to deal with the profile dots (the little painted dots along the edge of the window)? I tried, once, and even with having a "pro" install it for me, the tint bubbled around the edges and doesn't look so hot. Any suggestions out there?

I found that for them to look best rub them down everyday for the first two weeks. They will stick their best that way and have less bubbles. You will have air around each dot still.

Most of us choosing to tint our windows will tint all windows except for the front windshield (some will add a 3 or 4 inch dark band on the top edge of the windshield-rules for this vary from state to state). How dark a tint will vary but I have 35% and it is fine, not too dark but not light. No problems seeing at night or during the day. Cuts 100% UV light so it saves wear on the interior and me and cuts 99% of Infrared heat to cooler for the AC and warmer in the cold weather. Some owners will limo tint the sunroof glass at 5%. This works well.
Tint is always applied to the inside glass and should last a minimum of 7 years or more. Many have lifetime warranties, just keep your paperwork and hope that your tinting specialist is still in business that many years from now or that the company that makes the tint is in business. I have Lumar tint. Pretty good stuff, doesn't bubble up on the dotted areas of the glass.

That's pretty cheap I was quoted $250.00 to do 5 windows, and it comes with a lifetime warranty. Where do you live? I live in SF Bay Area, California.

I think i ended up with 5% rears and 18-20% fronts. Yes, it is way too dark- gets the wrong kind of attention if you know what I mean.
I like the 35% on the fronts npartist- I think I might do that all the way around on the new MINI. Thanks for sharing the pic.

I got 15% in the back & 25% up front. Lifetime warranty (Lumar) $100
I would make the back 3 windows as dark as possible. Having said that your wife will probably still hand cheapo window shades on your car to block the rest of sunlight.

I read here that you can lightly sand them down before tinting. Didn't try it myself though.
