Interior/Exterior Removing Rearview Mirror to Remove Headliner
Removing Rearview Mirror to Remove Headliner
I'm in the process of removing my headliner in my R56 and the rearview mirror is the last piece of the puzzle that holds it in. I'm kind of stumped how to get it out of the car.
I removed the electronic module with the map lights and switches and there was a torx screw that after being removed didn't seem to help at all. After feeling around the whole black plastic mirror base there aren't any obvious plugs blocking any screws. The only other thing I can think of is that the mirror base needs to be opened along the seam.
Has anyone removed this before? I know the keyless remote receiver is inside here and I don't want to damage it as I need to mount it again when the headliner is out. I have a picture below of the seam I describe.

Like most modern mirrors, it's designed to break away in an accident. If it's a standard mirror, just rip it down with a violent jerk.. it'll pop out of the ceiling.
If it's a self dimming, try to split the housing just to be able to disconnect the power connector. I didn't and the cable ripped up the leading edge of the hole in the headliner. If you can't split the housing, see if you can put something solid 1/2" below the mirror so that you don't overextend the cable after it pops out.
Edit: then again, maybe I'm getting my cars confused. Definitely try the twist astroBlackMettalic_Mini suggests, first.
