Wheel Width

What is the widest width of rim you can get without modifications to the fender?

I would approach this a different way

in looking at width, you have to get the right offset too. If the offset were wildly off, you might not even fit a 6" wheel, let alone push it with an 8" one or some such.

and, I would tend to focus on tire size and wheel diameter as earlier steps. Once you have those spec'ed, come back to the permitted, as well as recommended, wheel width for the given tire, and find the right offset to make it all fit right.

or, just go by others' practical experience of what works or not. Archive search is helpful there, as it is for tire width maximum questions.

I guess let me rephrase the question what what offset allows the widest width, and what size tires are you running? I was wanting to run a 245/255 width tire. Is this possible on the cooper?

Why? Bigger wheels and tires weigh more, hence more rotating weight, higher MOI.

THey would be hard to fit with the correct diameter, so you effect overall gearing, usually in a bad way.

Just asking?

I am running 215/45/r17's. They are on 17" Breyton GTS-R rims. I don't think I could have gone any wider without being close to rubbing. I was going to do a NM spring drop but am having second thoughts as I dont want the rear to rub when loaded with people.
