Interior/Exterior Interior paint
>>Does anybody happen to know the paint code number for the gray (light gray) interior color used for the dash and door handles. Mine is in need of a touch-up.
>>
>>Thanks.
I'm in search of this answer as well.
I've tried Testor silver and gray model paint ... it's close..... but not close enough
Peace,

that is not black. it BRG. but black would look good too. yes you have to take it all apart. it should be really easy.

There are about 17 plastic melted rivits to take the Y bar off. I wouldn't call it easy. I painted mine and just used tape and paper to cover what I didn't want colored. Down side of this technique is that, it feels kind of flat when you feel the back side. But you can get enough color to make it cover.

If you have the High Gloss "white" silver interior trim door panels and they are peeling off or the paint is completely gone, this is a WARRANTY repair.
Our MINIUSA regional manager acknowledged last year that the Silver tubes in the door panels are indeed DEFECTIVE FROM FACTORY, so MINIUSA is either replacing the panels with new ones or refinishing them (Repainting them with a stronger better quality paint) with an outside auto interior repair vendor. We were given the latter repair option.
The door panels in our '02 Cooper CVT were refinished for free under warranty last October and the paint quality is excellent much better than factory. They do look brand new again. (Will post pics later in the week).
So people, stop scrambling for silver touch up paint. Bottom line, the factory silver trim pieces (Non-lacquered parts such as the door panel tubes) are pure and absolute CRAP!!!!!. You don't have to put up with an ugly and worn out looking interior. Drive to your nearest MINI dealer and have them either replace/refinish your silver door panels and dashboard tubes UNDER WARRANTY!

I removed the panels, then disassembled them enough to pop the tubes out and then painted them (along with the downtubes). The panel was reassembled with 2 part epoxy and it isn't going anywhere!
Some people have asked on scratching, I had 2 scratches from when they were reinstalled (soft paint I guess), but after a summer of baking, I have yet to put a scratch in any of the 4 pieces, and I'd consider these rather high 'traffic area' pieces.

Thanks for the info, I'm going to definitely look into this as my passenger side door panel tube is pretty scratched up. I'll let you know how it goes...our local dealer is pretty good.
