Just did this to see what it would look like and if my reception would be affected. It does, but just a little bit, and mainly on stations I don't listen to. Anyway, if anyone has done this is there anything I need to be aware of? Weather, washing, wind, high speed issues? Oh, and I covered up the hole with some vinyl I had left over from stripes I used to have on Hansum Rob Any input will be appreciated, Thanks!
Here are some pics:

Hansum Rob good name!

On my mini that black plastic cap under the antenna comes off pretty easily...make sure it isn't loose on your mini or it will fly off when you go on the freeway!

I took mine off as well, my reception is exactly the same here in Southern California. I never heard about the plastic cover flying off, but I will keep an eye on that. I don't think that there are any problems associated with taking it off. I was trying to figure out what to do with the hole left, and your idea seems pretty cool. I am looking for a black plastic plug or something to pop into the hole.

I've been thinking about that myself. My reception isn't affected much at all without the antenna (it's pretty flat in Chicagoland) but I wanted to find a plug to screw down into the base. Perhaps just something rubber is the way to go.
