Interior/Exterior When do you use driving lights?
Hey Guys! I've had my S for 1 year now and want to do a couple mods i.e. performance and exterior. I would like to get black stripes and driving lights and want to do them myself. So...what places do you recommend in getting the lights and stripes. Also, stupid question but can you use the driving lights during normal city driving? When can you use the lights? Thank you again!
i just installed PIAA 540 lights for the MCS...easy install, the trickiest part was getting the wiring through the grommit in the firewall. i had to trim my aero kit grill to make it fit right but it looks great now.
they cost $200 on ebay....do a search for piaa 540 mini cooper and they should come up.
but if you get those, they only come on when you turn the brights on (you can turn them on or off at this point but the brights have to remain on).....so you can't just turn them on or off as you please. probably a regulation somewhere preventing you from doing this.
i'm not sure about the OEM rally lights though........but those cost about $700 installed from what i understand.
i'm sure a simply custom wiring work and you can get them to work as you want though. in north scottsdale, many neightborhoods don't have street lights and it's high up and away from the city so it's VERY dark....i'm glad i have these to help me at night. hopefully you'll find a good use for yours. ask yourself, do you drive with the brights on much? that's a great way to tell, otherwise, they're just there for the good looks

I got the OEM rally lights... LOVE the look, bought them for that reason... I was concerned when I found out that the dealer could only install them to go on when the brights are turned on... but, now I understand... These babies are really bright... you do not want to shine them into another driver's eyes... I don't think it would be practical to aim them down enough to compensate for this. Working as auxillary brights is perfect... I use them often... more than regular brights on my other cars.
God speed.

I've never owned a car w/ driving lights.
I very rarely use my brites...(I can count on my right hand how many times they've been on since 07/2002)
I've never put the front fog lites ..on
but....
I DO have.... the rear brake-lite mod
Peace,
D

Driving lights are basically supplemental high beam lamps. (In most cases, they have longer range than the high beams.) You shouldn't drive in normal city traffic with them on, because they would blind everyone coming at you.
Fog lights, on the other hand, shine low to the ground and have a very pronounced horizontal cutoff that won't blind oncoming traffic (provided they are aimed correctly). They can be used in normal city traffic, as seen on countless SUVs and GM cars, but I personally wouldn't recommend that either.
