Help with retrofitting new Mirror with UGO

I just purchased a new 2011 Cooper S that does NOT have the auto dimming/garage door opener mirror. I ordered one and it came in and i installed it and it does not work. I called the dealer and they said that since 2007 you are unable to retrofit a mirror with the garage door opener. Does anyone know if there is a fix for this problem..Cheers..m

You should be able to retrofit it - if I am remembering correctly, I've seen it done a few times. I know there is a special harness for the UGO mirror. I also thought there was some dealer programming involved. Wish I could provide more information, but it's been awhile since I worked at the dealership.

What did you connect it to? The UGO mirror is a self-contained unit and only needs 12V power to operate (no programming). A car without UGO mirror from the factory might not come with the connector harness, but there are 12V power sources in that roof console area you can connect to. The only unusual thing is that there is also a connection to the backup light, which is used to prevent the mirror from dimming while backing up.

Dealer told me it would not work. The necessary wiring would not have been installed at the factory.

I would lov to know it can be done and how...

The only necessary connections are 12V power and ground. If you are handy with wiring, it shouldn't be difficult to connect them. You can tap into a 12V source up in that roof console area.

As I said earlier, the mirror also uses a connection to the backup light, but the connection isn't necessary for regular operation.
