Interior/Exterior 2011 black headlights
2011 black headlights
I don't know if this has been discussed elsewhere but does anybody know if the black xenons on the 2011's can be retrofitted on my 2010 with xenons? How difficult would the process be or are they just plug and play. I love the black look but don't want to do the joey mod.
Possibly. I could probably sell my lights and recoup half of the cost. I don't want to deal with bubbling paint or the possibility of damaging my headlights. Just researching now, but who knows. My car is totally blacked out except my headlights and beltline. Beltline is next and then maybe the headlights.
I'm leaning towards what 'cop' is contemplating. The dealers I've dealt with will automatically drop 20% off the cost of most parts. So $1200 is looking more like $960 plus tax. Let's say that's $1050 total. If you can get $600 for your stock pair then out of pocket cost is now $450. That's not bad for some people (like myself) who don't have the time or patience to Joey Mod their own.
The black Xeon lights are supposed to only be for sale to WC50 or Camden owners so it could be a bit tricky getting a pair. Could require some creativity

OEM Xenon lights are hard to beat; the cost-cutting procedures on "aftermarket" lights affects the optics and outlight lumids of the knock-offs.

If they would just sell me the black plastic part that would make me golden
they want to sell you the whole light set(I already have the factory xenon) ouch!
I just want the inside plastic piece
do you know where to get that already in black?

Unfortunately, they don't seperate those parts available for resale.
Nope; other than full replacement units, I highly doubt you'll see anyone make an "insert".
If you're really straped on an economy build, why not instead remove the plastic internals and vinyl wrap them?
No bubbling, no peeling, and no fogging of the light fixtures.

Wait. People are covering their headlights in a black substance and then worrying about output, iow, how much light theyll be throwing down the road? Seems a little counterproductive to me.
Ask and thy shall receive to the best of my ability!

Cop1406, we seem to share the same ideas about chrome.
My beltline will be black within the week.

Awesome, I'm thinking that's the way for me to go with this MINI. I'm down to Horizon Blue or British Racing Green II, otherwise I'm ready to order.
Thanks for the pics, it actually looks better than on the configurator. I know this is probably a stupid question, but is the light affected at all?

Thanks for the info. I just had a pretty serious accident in my '06 MCS, not my fault, the other guy crossed the center line and came across 2 lanes and totaled El Kabong. But, my husband is now really paranoid about me driving and if I order anything that could compromise safety in any way he will NOT be pleased. On a good note, the MINI totally held up under impact and my daughter and I walked away much to the surprise of the first responders at the accident. The first thing my husband said was we were absolutely getting another MINI if El Kabong was totaled.
