Interior/Exterior Alcantara Headliner - Help Please :)
Alcantara Headliner - Help Please :)
I want to make my entire headliner (ceiling) alcantara, but I'm not sure how to.
Should I remove the headliner completely, buy a few yards of the fabric and stick it on using fabric adhesives?
How difficult/expensive would this be? Has anyone here done it? Are there any guides as to how to remove the headliner?
I also would like to change the color of my vanity mirrors (from the stock greyish color to black/anthracite).
thanks in advanced guys

I blacked out my top. I went with black suede even tough I have nothing else suede on my interior. I removed my headliner myself and took it to a local upholstery shop cost me around $350. I was going to do it myself but I knew that suede didn't stretch very much and when i saw the contours where the bezel for lights/sunroof switches are, i knew i would never be able to stretch the material without wrinkling it. I let the pros handle it (they actually had to hem just a tiny section right where that bezel is cause it would not stretch around that hump). If you go with regular headliner fabric, then do it yourself. As far as painting goes, I would just paint the pillars only and plastic cover where the light switches are. I'm a professional painter and I've done many custom and oem interiors over the years. I use only the best paints (R-M BASF and Sikkens) and can tell you that on parts that see lots of friction, in time, the paint will rub off. I just ordered all the parts from my local dealer ( sun visors, grab handles, and retainers) because I wanted it to be right. I could easily have painted everything, but eventually, the hinges on the visors and the retainers would rub through, and paint would rub off the grab handles from the repeated heavy friction. You can paint them, but it wont last. I think in all, I paid under $600 for everything and spent only a couple hours of labor. Trust me, it was well worth it.
You can do the removal and installation yourself to save $$$. Just be careful with the rear view mirror, the sunroof trim rings (if you have sunroof), and the bezel for the lights/window switches. Other than that, its pretty straight forward. I'll try getting you guys some pics some time soon. GOOD LUCK
