Interior/Exterior Factory Roof Rack: What's the largest item you routinely car
Well, Santa told me that this year I should go ahead and treat myself to a brand new sea kayak.
I chose a smaller sized model (15 feet long) that weighs only about 55 pounds. Although it will stick out 1.5 feet beyond both bumpers and look a bit silly, it should travel very well on the rack since it is so streamlined.
I think that the rack should be able to hold 2 such kayaks in the unlikely event I meet a fun kayaking gal in the future.
Anyway, who else carries big stuff on their MINI?

Yellow is not my favorite color, but it is the most visible and I really don't want to be run down by a drunk in a motorboat that cannot see me.
I'm getting the factory rack and will use simple foam blocks and tie-downs to secure the kayak.
The factory securing bolt in the bumpers will make great attachment points for the bow and stern.
I did notice that there was only one eye bolt in my MNI tool kit so will have to get an extra so I can tie down to both bumpers
Can't wait to post a pic of the loaded MINI! I am praying that one of the Atlanta dealerships will install my rack on mon or tuesday.

i find i fit a lot into my mini. for a picnic this summer i fit two large tents, a folding table, two coolers, ***** and toys, and a few other odds and ends. i have fit a vesspa frame in there with some other parts. last weekend i fit a sears 30 gal. air compressor, a 3 ton floor jack, a 2 ton floor jack, and two 4 ton jack stands for the pully party. it was ridding low, but it worked. and next i want h-sport springs... mabye i should use my van more....

I have put 4 9ft long boards on the roof rack with some simple carriers and nylon straps. They held up just fine heading down PCH at 50mph. They do look a little funny and get many waves going down the highway as they do hang off the back end quite a bit and extend over the bonnet as well.
 If I knew how to surf or even HAD a surfboard, we'd have 2 of those on the rack. But for now, it's just used for our mountain bikes....
