There are lots of posts here about this if you search. Many people use the bracket sold by "gominigo". It mounts on the tow hook, so you dont have to drill holes in your bumper. Mine is in transit to me right now.
I'm going to Lowe's tomorrow to get the parts to make my own bracket. I would hate to spend 50 bucks on something I could make for ~$5.
Good luck with that. I know you couldn't buy the stainless steel for $5. Finding something to use for the tow-hook stud is also going to be a challenge. If you want to drill holes in your bumper, that's another matter. They aren't making a fortune on that $50 price.

I know this is a bit old but I was going to do the same thing. I seached high and low for it. I went to hardware stores including home depot, autoparts stores(everyone in the area), marine and boat shops, and also trucking shops. Nobody has ever seen anything like the bolt that goes in the tow hook hole on e the front and rear bumer.

If you find a place let me know.
That is the problem and why the part costs $50. The screw has to be machined to make it work. NO ONE make that thread as standard except BMW and the tow hooks are molded not machined.
Now you could purchase the tow hook from the dealer and then cut off the hook part and then drill out the remaining part with the thread on it and tap that with the threads of your choice. in the long run (unless you have a machine shop in your basement or that you can use) probably spend very close to the $50.00 to make you own.
The threads would be metric, so not common in that size at a hardware store in the USA. Once you found a bolt, you would have to somehow adapt it to hold a license plate bracket. I very much doubt that drewstermalloy actually succeeded in making one, and definitely not for $5.
Also, the GoMiniGo.com bracket is stainless steel. So, $50 is not a bad price.
