I agree with wrapping it in vinyl, at least for the headlight rings. It's not permanent, it's more durable and vinyl is cheap. If you want, Lagston will wrap them for you, but the rings aren't terribly hard to wrap. They aren't quite as easy as they look either though. You'll need some heat.

I haven't tried plastidip, but it sounds like it's not permanent and cheap but not nearly as durable as vinyl would be.

I went with the Plasti Dip option based on the ease of going back and with the cost associated with it. I did end up having to purchase a new headlight washer cover for the right side when it slipped during removal and broke the bottom retaining clip. However at a cost of $6.83 shipped second day I did not feel to bad. Lots of threads on removing the chrome helped with understanding how to remove the pieces making the task extremely easy. Between going from DS on the hood scoop to Carbon Fiber, doing the rings, gas cap and finally changing the mirror caps from gloss black to CF it all seems to blend. Flat black wheel arches and lower plasti dip and gloss belt liner and top flows nicely.

@ Tron Chief:

Are those the stock Cooper S sidescuttles plasti-dipped?

I'm thinking of going the plasti-dip route with my 09 MCS, but am not sure about the sidescuttles. I think the red S would look alright with the chrome simply blacked out rather than replacing the whole thing.

If that's what you did, do you have a close-up?

The side markers were one of the first mods that I did they are Aestheric Creations vinyl decals.

Nice

Was it difficult to line it up and get it on correctly?

No it was not that bad. Take a little time and don't rush it and you'll be fine
