Rear bumper grill insert option R53
I read other peoples option for the inserts. I thought that I could do better, pompous me. I thought that the mini backup light was wimpy, and so begins the design. The quickest option wiring wise was the backup light. I could have wired to the blinkers, but I wound up ordering the lights in white, and didn't want to put a red lens over a white source, wasted energy. When I first lit them up in my living room, I was not very impressed. Bright yes, but would they be merely a futile excursion? Cut the plastic, made individual lenses on the lathe, cut slots for O-rings, a little bonding, soldering and cursing the initial installation, and voila! I am a bit biased, but I like the obvious lenses when in the daylight. I am playing around with a clear red and red LEDs for a more sublime look. But night is where they shine, and yes they are functional. I am very noticeable at night and when viewed from the driver seat display a large pattern of light. Better to looked over than overlooked as I always say. I hope you like my first of many entries into modding my Mini.

The LED source
I got them from Superbright Leds. They are compact and somewhat waterproof from behind. I made the lenses with orings for the front, to keep them from fogging up and or getting dirt inside. They work in a series of three, so you cannot use just one or two. I was going to do a cougar sequential turn signal, but cannot fit nine per side. Hope this helps.
