Saddlebag in boot?

I'm considering buying a saddlebag for my MINI, but I've never seen one in person. Just curious if a 1st Generation saddlebag owner out there would mind helping me out. Is it pretty sturdy? I want the extra storage and have considered buying one since getting my MINI, but the main reason I want it right now is so I'll have someplace to put my Safety Spair. It probably weighs 5 to 7 pounds. Its dimensions are 7.75 x 8.5 x 3.5. (Actually, it's about 1/8 in or more smaller, but that's pretty close.) I'm just wondering if someone out there can tell me if it'll fit...or if it weighs too much...etc. Thank you.

I have this saddlebag and I think it would fit but I personally would not want that much weight hanging from the rear shelf and bouncing around.

See if it will fit inside one of the side access panels for the taillights. It looks like it may just make it there..

Have you thought of the MINI Boot Box they make two models a collapsable model and a rigid model. the rigid boot box has a great two-sided lid that gives an even surface when the back seats are down. the lid has a great Union Jack on one side and non-skid rubber on the other. As far as saddlebags go, I have them also, I don't think they would hold the weight I use mine for a safety kit with medical items and flares for road side emergencies. what ever good luck By the way the boot boxes have dividers that help to separate items.

I wouldn't mind having a rigid boot box, but I didn't know they made one for the 1st generation. I'll look and see what I find. The official weight of what I'm wanting to put in the saddlebag is actually closer to 4-5 lbs. Anyway, I'll check it out. Thank you.
