Boot Handle Removal

Hi guys, not finding much in the way of this topic. Anyone yanked theirs off yet to replace or plasti-dip? I would like to dip mine tonight and was just wondering if anyone had a quick write-up on the removal of it.

I just plasti-dip sprayed mine -- removed the 4 torx screws and pulled out far enough to mask around with tape and newspapers - sprayed several light coats and it turned out well.

I'd rather paint it off the car... I'm a little spastic with aerosol paints. I am assuming the plastics need to be removed on the inside and it's a pain since you painted it on the car huh?

I know very little about fitting/removing auto body panels, but this is something I've done and it's super-duper easy as long as you have the right sized six-sided "star" torx screwdriver.

All you have to do, like atomic said, is unscrew the 4 torx screws. When the boot is closed, you can only see them by kneeling by the license plate and looking up under the boot handle. Just unscrew them and pull the boot handle slightly away from the boot so that you can pinch and unclip the wire that runs from the boot into the boot handle.

With the boot handle now fully separate, do what you want to do with it, and when it's ready to go back on, just clip the wire running out of the boot back into the boot handle socket, replace the boot handle, and screw it back in with the 4 torx screws.

I removed my yellow boot handle months ago to replace it with a carbon fiber one, and even for a novice going slow, this was an easy job that only took maybe 5 minutes.

Does anyone know what size torx these screws are? Thanks!
