Looks really good. And by the way, there are a lot of manufacturers that put carbon fiber body panels on their cars from the factory, and they paint over them. There's nothing wrong with painting over carbon fiber, unless you want that much attention with it displayed.
I was just going to say because it looks badass

Yes, it takes all kinds, however, you're crazy if you think that looks stupid.

No insult intended, just like the guy that decided to do the whole under-car-neon......stupid.

I don't get the whole CF hood thing anyway. What is the purpose except to show off you have a CF hood. Just bling right?

And as to the DIY coment, that was reffering to the shot of the hood with the crap/dirt all over it. Looked like a poor attempt at applying vinyl.

Dude, no offense, but you don't even have a picture of your car, let alone a description. How are you going to tell somebody their idea is stupid? You obviously have no idea what some parts do, so in that event, you should probably be quiet. A carbon fiber hood, serves 2 purposes. One could be the "bling" you are talking about, and the other is the most important. Listen up carefully, I don't want this flying over your head. Less weight on the car. Remember, you can say someone's idea is stupid all day, but don't get mad when that same guy says something on your car is stupid.

So how much weight is actually saved?

And I would take no offense if someone didn't like something I did to my car, that is the nature of all mods. Some like 'em, some don't. Some add to performance and some don't.

And you can lose the sarcastic attitude dude, I know full well the weight savings of CF. Not that this kind of mod is actually going to really add any performance benefit w/o lots of other weight reduction being done.

LOL, so instead of answering the question you decide to take another poke. Sorry, but I don't respond in kind. Got better things to do.

So how much weight do you save?

I really preferred this type of strip, but the installer gave me one of the curved ones [guess he had it in stock, or didn't want to cut one especially for the windshield curve ]. That said, I have grown to like what he installed, anyway; besides, it DOES cut the glare from early morning and late afternoon sun. Just make sure whatever you use to clean your tint does NOT have ammonia in it.

To be honest, I've never had my bonnet off to actually weigh it. Maybe when I return and go through with my projected flip forward bonnet, I can see how much it weighs. If I had to guess, and this is just a guess, I'd say roughly 15 pounds. I'm guessing the bonnet weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 pounds.

It's all up to the installer. My vinyl lettering across my windshield goes straight across. When the installers first did it, they had to redo it. They had put too much of a curve in it. They guesstimated the calculations and on the second shot, they nailed it to the tee.

The OEM hood itself (no lights) weighs about 20 pounds. So you are saving about 5-10 pounds.

This tells me that the looks are more important, and by painting the fenders you are going for the Honda Civic look. To each his own, but I still think it looks dumb. And I am allowed my own opinion on things too, right?

I am not sure what hood you have been lifting on, but I wish mine only weighed 20lbs...I could lift it off the car with one hand. Unfortunately, I had to use both hands, and a friend.

Also, you can have your opinion, but no one asked you for it. Who are you to criticize? If he posted up the pic and said "what do you think?" then you can word vomit away.

and 5lbs here, 10lbs there adds up, fast....especially on small cars with small motors.

well of course you can have an opinion. but making comments like "the honda civic look" and "dumb" aren't exactly constructive criticism...nor are they in the spirit of nam. after all, we all are driving the most youified of rides.

Yes, you are free to say whatever you want, no matter how dumb it sounds. That's why I'm in the military, so people can continue to say what they want. However, I must agree with Oxtox, as this is NOT the way to say it. basically you slapped AZBlackout in the face with your comment. That is NOT COOL. I do see where you are coming from with your opinion by the way, and I have no ill feelings towards you by no means. He's not making his car look like any one model, ie. a Honda Civic. He's just making it look like a normal car. The clamshell style hood is fine when you have an actual color, but when you have a complete carbonfiber hood on say a red MINI, it looks funky. When you add the cars color to the fender section of the carbonfiber hood, it just make the car look like it has a regular hood, seperate from the fenders. It's just more appealing to the eyes, IMO. Seriously, find a picture of any MINI besides a black one that has a carbonfiber hood, and tell me it doesn't look funny.

Well...I think I have my car down to close to 2K lbs. Need to do a few more things to get it on the money but I dont think my hood and such is a waste. It MIGHT be considered bling....but you can classify ANY aftermarket part in that category....Here is an old pic of my car. Nothing special...just a few UNTASTEFUL mods....plus I like to look at my car. It brings a to my face....and BTW..an OEM hood does not weigh 20lbs. Maybe the left half..

Back on topic. I looked at my windshield yesterday when I washed my car and I didn't see any AS1 mark. Where would it be?

They vare tricky to see, especially if you've never seen one. Start at the roof and come down about 4-6 inches next to the edge of the windshield where it meets the A pillar, look real carefully, and you will see a strange looking mark embedded into the windshield.

It looks something like this http://home.comcast.net/~marvweaver/as1line.jpg

And it is located in this general area.
