Stainless trim on auto shift ****?

Anyone know whether the stainless trim on the automatic shift **** is removable? I have the steptronic shifter, by the way. My uncle is really into woodworking, and It'd be cool to have the shifter with wooden trim.

Also, how easy is it to remove the leather/plastic handle from the parking brake lever?

Nice, Mopar meets Munich.....How do you decide which one to drive on the weekends ?

Can't help ya with the auto.....but the ebrake handle does come apart. need to pull off front collar forward, rest comes off easy enough. Should be a thread here somewhere.....saw one not long ago.

I've removed my **** lots of times - and haven't seen an easy / non destructive way to remove the trim... I suspect it will come off if you pull hard enough... but then you're committed...

How did you remove the **** on the automatic. I need to remove mine to install a leather boot. Does it pull off the same way as the manual shift ****?

Pulls off, straight up. Requires some persuasion the first time. Doesn't matter whether you're pushing the button or not. Makes no difference. Nothing to break, really, so don't worry if you have to pull HARD.

I got it. Thanks. Not as bad as I thought it would be. I got some nice redline shifter and e-brake boots for x-mas I want to put on.

I got the boot on, but man what a nightmare. The holes in the leather were simply not big enough to go over the plastic clips, and I came very close to breaking a few of the clips. I kept shoving bigger and bigger things through the holes in the leather trying to widen the holes to make them easier to install, but was just not having any luck. Now the tips of my fingers are sore from trying to pull that leather over one side while pushing on the back of the clip from the other side to try and keep it from breaking. I would not want to have to do that again!!!

Yeah... it's been a long time since I did mine, but now that you mention it, I remember using a knife to enlarge those holes a little...

Blimey - do you have a pic of the stock shift **** removed? I read in another thread that the linkage comes out with it... I want to compare this with the steptronic shifter on the E46/E90 BMWs and see if those ***** will fit, they also have a linkage attached that comes out with the ****.

I don't think I have a pic... but just pull yours off and look at it.... doesn't hurt a thing. Just grab and pull up HARD. Just snaps on and off. Nothing can break.

Yeah, got it off last night. It's really not all that hard - getting it back in was a little scary though, the plastic shaft seems sort of brittle and I was sure it was going to break.

It looks very similar to the BMW steptronic ***** off the E46/E90 3-series. I'm going to see if I can find one cheap and try it. If I can pick a used one up for like $10, it would be worth it. I would love to replace the automatic **** with something that works just like factory.

If that doesn't work out, I'm just going to pick up a real nice manual ****.
